The Gateway Region YMCA is operating a variety of school year programming to help students, families and school districts doing virtual or hybrid learning. The Y Enrichment Program (YEP) is a new program that supports student care and learning. YEP operates full days-5 days per week at various YMCA and off-site locations.
“We created YEP to give parents a piece of mind knowing their children are in a safe, nurturing, environment during the school day while they’re at work,” said Laurie McTearnen, Vice President of Child Care Services.
“Our program helps alleviate the stress we know many parents have about the school year. Children are under supervision of our staff throughout the day, and are available to help with daily school work.”
For YMCA School District partnerships where the districts have returned to in-person learning, the Y will continue to operate their regular Y Club Before & Afterschool Enrichment Program within the school facility.
Just as the YMCA did with their Emergency Schools Out Program and Summer Day Camp programs that operated throughout the summer, the Y continues to follow all of the CDC and local health official guidelines.
“The YMCA has always worked to address a community need whenever possible. Children need to learn, and parents need to work, so we chose to try and fulfill a need of enrichment support,” McTearnen said.
Financial Assistance is available for those who need it.
